The Story Behind Taproot Coffee

Rooted in Coorg. Crafted for the World.

Every great cup of coffee has a story. Ours begins in the heart of Coorg.

01

Where Our Story Begins

Nestled among the mist-covered hills, lush green landscapes and coffee plantations of Coorg, Karnataka, coffee is more than just an agricultural crop. It is a way of life.

For generations, the people of this region have lived alongside coffee. From the first green leaves on the plantation to the bright red cherries ready for harvest, every stage carries the dedication, patience and hard work of the people who grow it.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Western Ghats, Coorg offers a unique environment for coffee cultivation. Its rich landscapes, seasonal rainfall, natural shade and plantation traditions make it one of India's most recognised coffee-growing regions.

It was from this beautiful connection between land, people and coffee that the idea behind Taproot Coffee took shape.

The Idea Behind Taproot

The name Taproot represents something deeper than coffee.

In nature, a taproot is the central root that grows deep into the earth, providing stability, strength and nourishment to a plant. It represents the foundation from which everything grows.

We believe great coffee follows the same principle.

Behind every memorable cup are strong roots: the land where it grows, the people who nurture it, the knowledge behind its cultivation and the care that goes into its preparation.

That belief became the inspiration for Taproot Coffee. We wanted to build a brand that celebrates the origin of coffee while making quality coffee experiences accessible to people everywhere.

Our roots are in Coorg, but our vision reaches beyond boundaries.

The Vision of Our Founder

Anoop Chakravarthy

Founder, Taproot Coffee

Every brand begins with an idea, but it takes vision and commitment to turn that idea into something meaningful.

For Anoop Chakravarthy, Taproot Coffee represents an opportunity to bring the richness of Coorg's coffee heritage into a modern coffee experience.

The vision is to create more than just another coffee brand. It is about building a connection between the origin of coffee and the people who enjoy it.

With a deep appreciation for the coffee-growing culture of Coorg, the idea is to celebrate the journey of coffee while exploring different ways people can experience it.

From traditional ground coffee to roasted beans and convenient instant coffee, Taproot aims to bring variety, quality and discovery together under one name.

The journey is driven by a simple belief: coffee should be appreciated not only for its taste, but also for the story behind every bean.

04

Inspired by the Land of Coorg

Coorg, also known as Kodagu, is one of India's important coffee-producing regions.

Located in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, the region is known for its green hills, forest-covered landscapes, seasonal monsoons and traditional coffee estates.

Coffee cultivation is deeply connected to the region's agricultural identity. Robusta and Arabica are both cultivated here, with Robusta being particularly prominent across much of Kodagu.

The natural shade of plantation trees, the surrounding biodiversity and the combination of coffee with crops such as pepper and cardamom create a distinctive plantation landscape.

For Taproot, Coorg is not simply a place of origin. It is the inspiration behind the brand's identity. It reminds us that good coffee begins long before it reaches the roasting machine or the coffee cup.

The Journey of Every Coffee Bean

At Taproot, we believe that understanding coffee makes every cup more meaningful.

A coffee bean passes through several important stages before becoming the coffee we enjoy.

01

The Origin – Grown in Nature

The journey begins in coffee-growing landscapes where coffee plants grow under carefully maintained plantation conditions. The land, climate, shade and cultivation practices all contribute to the character of the coffee.

02

Harvest – Picking at the Right Time

Coffee cherries are harvested when they reach the appropriate stage of ripeness. Careful harvesting plays an important role in maintaining the quality of the beans.

03

Processing – From Cherry to Green Bean

After harvesting, coffee cherries undergo processing to separate the beans from the fruit. Depending on the method, the beans are processed through natural or washed techniques and dried before further preparation.

04

Milled & Graded – Preparing the Beans

The dried coffee is hulled, cleaned and graded. This stage helps prepare the beans for roasting and further processing.

05

Roasting – Developing the Character

Roasting transforms green coffee beans into aromatic roasted coffee. Temperature, time and roasting profile influence the aroma, body, flavour and overall character of the final coffee.

06

Grinding & Blending – Creating the Experience

Roasted coffee can be ground to suit different brewing methods. Blending different coffee proportions also creates different taste experiences, strengths and flavour profiles.

07

Brewing – The Final Experience

Finally, coffee meets water, aroma fills the air and the journey reaches your cup. Whether enjoyed as a traditional filter coffee, a freshly brewed cup or an instant coffee, every preparation creates its own experience.

08

Our Journey Continues

Taproot Coffee is a journey that continues to grow with every harvest, every blend and every cup.

We carry the spirit of our roots into everything we create.

Because coffee is not just something we drink. It is something we grow, understand, craft and share.
